This is the only way we will get real societal change that  incorporates women in decision-making as equals and benefits us all.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Women&#8217;s Day  website &#8211; which claims to be designed to &#8220;provide a platform to help  forge positive change for women&#8221; &#8211; has chosen the theme  #ChooseToChallenge and it is asking people to &#8220;<strong>raise your hand high to show you&#8217;re in<\/strong> and that you commit to choose to challenge and call  out inequality&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"618\" height=\"248\" src=\"http:\/\/pilatesfitness.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/raised-hands-colourful-1768845_640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pilatesfitness.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/raised-hands-colourful-1768845_640.jpg 618w, https:\/\/pilatesfitness.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/raised-hands-colourful-1768845_640-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 618px) 100vw, 618px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;Gender  parity will not be attained for almost a century<\/strong>&#8220;: according to the World Economic Forum &#8220;none of us will see gender parity in our lifetimes, and nor likely will many of our  children&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recent events have also worsened the situation: according to UN Women: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-55016842\"><strong>the coronavirus pandemic could wipe out 25 years of increasing gender equality<\/strong><\/a><strong>.<\/strong>  Women have been doing much work at home in the form of  domestic chores and family care (plus schooling) because of the pandemic lockdowns, which in turn, can impact upon job and education opportunities and financial remuneration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, there is all the more need to remind ourselves of the importance of gender equality in both theory and practice!
