Endometriosis [1]

ENDOMETRIOSIS – what is it?

Endometriosis is a condition in which cells similar to those in the endometrium, the layer of tissue that normally covers the inside of the uterus, grow outside of it… [usually] on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and tissue around the uterus and ovaries; however, in rare cases it may also occur in other parts of the body. [2]

SYMPTOMS

The main symptoms are pelvic pain and infertility. [2]

Almost 50% of those affected by endometriosis have chronic pelvic pain, while 70% experience pain during menstruation. Pain during sexual intercourse is also common. Infertility occurs in up to half of women affected. Less common symptoms include urinary or bowel symptoms; 1 in 4 women have no symptoms.

Endometriosis can have both social and psychological effects.

CAUSE

The cause is not entirely clear [2]

TREATMENT

There is no cure for endometriosis [2]

THE TRUTH

The info (summary) above all comes from wikipedia [2] and reflects the “consensus so far”.
